DevLog#5 Switched to Unreal Engine 5

Original text of DevLog#5 - 1/10/22

Oops. Ill come up with an excuse later. Im really into visual scripting right now tho. It may change things about the game. I may just finish my previous project as a proof of concept. It will have to happen later. Im just getting used to the new system. Be back in a bit.

Well. Here we are more than a year later and I am once again switching back to unreal engine. I am also now realizing that I Imagined much of the original game design to be walking from place to place. After Death Stranding came out I was so engaged with learning the systems that I was imagining in my head months prior. The game idea pivoted to a more puzzle based gameplay loop but kept the large playspace of the entire island availble to the player. Now that I am recreating the game in Unreal, I am going to focus on the walking aspect of the game. Obviously taking some inspiration from Death Stranding, however the main loop of the game is different from Death Stranding and the mechanics I take inspiration from have to be adapted to my game loop. Ill keep ya updated, right now I have my first person adventure template loaded in, moved over my terrain heightmap, and attached variables and functions to change the player's speed based on how much they carry. As of right now im working on detecting the surfaceType of any surface the player steps on, which should allow me to implement a stability system. Im still sorta amateur at Unreal Engine but with practice ill be able to finish my game and then I can sell it and make money from it and then use that money to make a game studio, quit my two retail jobs, and make more games. At least I think thats how it works. We'll see. :)
