DevLog #15 - Unreal Engine is Awesome!
So I have started really picking up speed with learning Unreal Engine. One big takeaway is that in Unreal Engine, most game stuff is already made for you. In Unity, if I wanted to check the slope of the ground under the player I would have to code a whole function to do that, which mean debugging time because I'm experimental I guess. In Unreal Engine, there is a single function that does this for me already. In Unity, I have to write my own lerp function for floats that I want to change smoothly. In Unreal, there is already a function to ease floats. Not to mention how much easier visual scripting is for my brain. So now I am working on implementing all the survival systems. Outside of the gameplay, I have been looking into mocap solutions for the cutscenes, primarily move.ai. But before we can even begin recording anything, I need a solidified narrative. That's why I am writing the story in a book format to describe the kind of experience I want the player to have. I have also been using AI to write it faster which is nice but can also be very bland. AI is not the best at knowing what makes writing interesting to read. Well I attached a video of the progress so far. Feel free to comment if you would like to :) I'll give another update soon!
