DevLog #6 - Not Reinventing the Wheel

If you are wondering where DevLog #5 is, I found it in my drafts in this state:

Oops. Ill come up with an excuse later. Im really into visual scripting right now tho. It may change things about the game. I may just finish my previous project as a proof of concept. It will have to happen later. Im just getting used to the new system. Be back in a bit.

Very elegant. After a while of doing nothing on my project, I spent a good week trying to program a fire mechanic. I brought back the fire effect I made originally, Made a bunch of messy scripts to figure out how fire should simulate spreading.

After I had gotten to a point where I could no longer improve it without many design review, I found a fire spreading system someone had made available for download. After importing the assets and opening the demo scene, I was shocked to see something I had spent hours upon hours perfecting and reprogramming over and over, was already made and available to me. So I decided from that point on that I wasn't going to program something myself unless I was unable to find another solution. I decided to replace most of my own code with assets from the unity asset store.

So what part of the process am I at? Well since I skipped most of what I planned to do, I should have at least a small demo available by the end of the year. Emphasis on small. Just a showcase of what I am going for. I also remade the project using the Universal Render Pipeline. I had to reimport a lot of assets from the old project but the new one looks a lot better and has less errors. I shall keep you updated on how it goes, Im hoping I can finish the main puzzle so I can reward myself with some fun animating :3
